Brian Finestone is employed year-round as the Public Safety Supervisor for Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. He has dedicated over ten years to providing rescue services in the mountains, working in Canada and abroad as a professional ski patroller, avalanche forecaster and avalanche rescue dog handler.
Originally in Whistler for a one-season break from University, Brian quickly realized he would never be content to return to the world of academia. Inspired by an avalanche dog team he met while working as a lift operator in 1992, Brian focused on the hard skills required to work in the field of mountain rescue, eventually becoming a senior avalanche rescue dog handler and president of the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association.
A self-described "alpine generalist", Brian is equally at home on alpine skis, snowboard, telemark skis or with a pair of ice axes in hand. His passion for winter mountain sports can only be eclipsed by his passion for rock climbing in any of its different forms.
