About the Authors

Brian Finestone is employed year-round as the Public Safety Supervisor for Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. He has dedicated over ten years to providing rescue services in the mountains, working in Canada and abroad as a professional ski patroller, avalanche forecaster and avalanche rescue dog handler.

Originally in Whistler for a one-season break from University, Brian quickly realized he would never be content to return to the world of academia. Inspired by an avalanche dog team he met while working as a lift operator in 1992, Brian focused on the hard skills required to work in the field of mountain rescue, eventually becoming a senior avalanche rescue dog handler and president of the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association.

A self-described "alpine generalist", Brian is equally at home on alpine skis, snowboard, telemark skis or with a pair of ice axes in hand. His passion for winter mountain sports can only be eclipsed by his passion for rock climbing in any of its different forms.

Kevin has long served as the Race Manager for the Eco-Challenge expedition race, which has taken him to such locales as Australia, Morocco, Argentina, Malaysia, New Zealand and Fiji. His work can also be seen on the popular television series "Survivor" (CBS) where he is a member of the team responsible for designing and co-ordinating the challenges. At the time of publication he was working on the much-publicized show "The Contender" (NBC).

Kevin has climbed and skied at several international locations and maintains a boyish enthusiasm for both.
